ARTICLE 1: HAIR LOSS PREVENTION

Male-Pattern-Baldness produces patterned hair loss. Some people begin with recession at the frontal hair line followed by diffuse thinning over the vertex which produces a bald patch. These people generally have no typical symptoms, such as greasy scalp, dandruff or itching. For most people however, the hair loss begins over the crown, accompanied by the above symptoms. They usually scratch the scalp unconsciously, which can accelerate the speed of hair loss and destroy many hair follicles.

Because of the varied causes of hair loss and existence of individual differences, the rates of hair growth are very different.

It is now proven that over 90% Male-Pattern-Baldness is caused by impaired blood circulation to the hair roots.

We have many important suggestions that can help you deal with your problem.

Hair growth is a very slow process, especially new hair growth. Be patient. It is my belief that if you employ 101 Hair Tonics and all the advice we give you, you can receive some positive results for your efforts.

ARTICLE 2 - HAIR WASHING

Even if your scalp is excessively oily frequent washing of the hair with shampoos is not recommended. Frequent washing may cause hair roots to become loose and tends to increase oil secretion. Excessive washing can also dry the skin out too much and contribute to the development of dandruff. For these reasons, we recommend that you wash your hair every two or three days.

Your scalp normally has a so-called acid mantle. Washing with hot water and soap or strong shampoo can change the naturally acid condition of the scalp to alkaline. The normal requirement is that water used to wash your hair should not be very hot. Choose some mild shampoo.

Maybe you use gel or mousse on your hair everyday. In this case you can wash your hair with mild water when you take a shower, but do not apply shampoo everyday.

ARTICLE 3 - EMOTIONAL STRAIN

Prolonged mental stress can have a negative effect on hair growth and be a contributing factor in the loss of your hair, which eventually can lead to complete baldness. Emotional strain and tension causes constriction of the blood vessels of the scalp and tensions in the muscle tissues. This prevents the blood from going to the roots of the hair. If nervous tension and severe emotional strain continues over a lengthy period of time, there could be a noticeable loss of hair as a result of this lack of blood flow in the scalp. So it is important to keep physically relaxed, a cheerful mood and not take life in general too seriously!

Did you know? Our hair can grow 0.27-0.4mm everyday, grow 50-60cm in 3-4 years.

ARTICLE 4 - COMBING and BRUSHING

Regular combing or brushing should be an important ritual in your effort to improve the quality of your hair and to prevent baldness. Combing your hair deeply massages the scalp and helps clean the surface of dirt, dead skin, and dandruff. It also helps the sebaceous glands to release their secretions and stimulate their normal activity. Don't be afraid that with vigorous combing you will pull out your hair. If the hair is already so loosely attached in its cuticle that it pulls out with combing, then it would be of no benefit to keep it there - the sooner it comes out the better.

Use a fine, high quality comb made of natural material. Comb your hair 5-10 minutes, morning and evening. It is hard to find a proper comb in the market nowadays. Often one can only find plastic brushes. When I happened to find the comb called the Carpenter Tan - the best brand comb in China, I was very excited. This comb is good as it is made of either superior Peach wood or Chinese box wood so it wont create any static electricity. With its smooth teeth, it is perfect for massaging the scalp. Many of my customers love it. Presently in stock, I have both Peach and Box wood combs. Small, middle and large sizes are available. If you are interested in one of these combs, please call me.

Did you know? According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, combing your hair can help you sleep well

ARTICLE 5 - FINGER MASSAGE

A professional body massage once a week is relaxing but does little for re-generation of your hair as often contact with the scalp is omitted. Therefore, finger massaging of the scalp is highly recommended. This more local massage is a very effective way of improving blood flow to the hair follicles, both dormant and active.

In order to be beneficial, massage should be performed frequently - at least twice a day. It is very easy to finger massage the scalp yourself. To do it, place all ten finger tips firmly on your head and, without taking your fingers off your scalp, perform circular movements for a few seconds. After this is done, place the fingers in a new position, and repeat this same procedure. Cover the whole scalp with this massaging method and include the forehead, temples, and neck. On your neck and forehead, you may also use upward pushing movements as well.

Some experts also advise using a flat-handed scalp massage - that is, placing the palms of the hands directly against the scalp, rather than using the fingers. Again a circular movement is recommended. Either method of massage will not only loosen the tightness of the scalp, but also relax you, without damaging any hair.

Did you know? There are many acupuncture points on our scalp, so anywhere you touch may be an acupuncture point. Massaging these points is particularly helpful in stimulating the blood circulation and relieving skin tightness. You can call us if you would like to know exactly where these points are located.

ARTICLE 6 - THE NUTRITIONAL APPROACH

The health of your hair and scalp depends to a great degree on the quality of your blood, just as your general health depends on the quality of your blood. The quality of your blood, which feeds your hair, depends on your nutrition intake from food.

It has said that the best way to be assured of a head of healthy, thick, black hair is to be born in China. It is true that heredity has a great deal to do with good hair. But, heredity is not the whole answer. Even the Chinese grow gray hair or become bald when they adopt Western habits of eating.

The male natives in other countries such as Japan, Spain and Mexico also have, as a general rule, thick hair. Furthermore, their hair remains a rich blue/black color until old age. Studies of the nutritional habits of these people and of the Chinese show their diets are rich in the vital elements which are necessary for healthy hair growth. Chinese cuisine in particular is very high in vitamins, especially vitamins B and C, minerals, and essential fatty acids - all very important for healthy hair. We eat a great variety of vegetables, and our diet is rich in proteins and unsaturated fats from sea foods, soy beans, etc.

Based on available scientific knowledge of the relationship between good nutrition and good hair growth, I recommend the following diet rules.

  1. Avoid too much salt in your diet: You obtain most of the salt your body needs from the foods you eat. Experiments have proven that accumulated salt in body tissues can cause excessive loss of hair.
  2. Fortify your diet with natural iodine: The best source of iodine is kelp, in tablet or threadlike form, available at health food shops or Chinese grocery stores. It has been demonstrated that iodine when added to animal feed increases the quality and growth rate of their fur. People such as Eskimos who are known for their thick and healthy hair live on diets rich in iodine, Fish, all sea foods and seaweed (kelp) are recommended.
  3. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables: Do not overcook your vegetables. Many valuable vitamins and minerals are destroyed or lost in cooking. Eat foods rich in B vitamins: raw seeds and nuts (walnuts), peas, beans, whole grains.
  4. Avoid excessive intake of animal fats and refined carbohydrates: white sugar, white flour and foods made from them. The normal function of the sebaceous glands can be adversely affected when the diet is rich in refined carbohydrates and animal fats. Replace animals fats and hydrogenated fats (margarine) in your diet with unsaturated cold-pressed vegetable oils such as sesame seed oil or olive oil.
  5. Don't smoke: Smoking constricts the arteries and capillaries and slows down blood circulation. Moreover, tobacco robs your body of vitamin C that is important for the health of collagen, an important part of the skin.
